Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie

I know what you're thinking. A smoothie in winter, Amanda? Really? Do I see snow on the ground in that photo?

Well, okay, okay, that is snow on the ground. And yes, this is a smoothie. In the middle of winter. But hear me out.

I can't speak for you, but I know that I for one need to detox after all the cookies, candies and carbs I've been consuming the past few months. My body is craving foods that are good for me! Foods with things like fiber, and vitamins. Remember those?

This smoothie is made with frozen strawberries and raspberries, plus some Greek yogurt and soy milk (but you could sub cow's milk). It's not going to win any awards in the "innovation" category, but it's light, it's refreshing, and the burst of pink color is an instant pick-me-up in this season of drabness and cold weather. Change the ratios to suit your preferences, but here's the combination I like.

Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie
1 to 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1/2 cup soy milk, almond milk or cow's milk
1/4 - 1/3 cup Greek yogurt (for protein and creaminess)
Sugar, honey or Splenda to taste

Throw everything in your blender, and blend until smooth. I've found it's helpful to add my soy milk first and puree half or a third of the frozen berries at a time to lighten the load on the blender.

Sip, smile, and focus on spring.
